Which Marvel Champions Hero Are You?

Written by Josh Bailey

I don’t know why, but lately I have been discussing and participating in a lot of different methods to determine one’s personality type. I thought I should apply it to this game. The idea is that you will start with knowledge about your own personality through one or more of these categories and you can click through to find out which hero from the Core Set and announced expansions (currently through Thor) that you most closely align with. Maybe this sorting method will take off and rather than indicating their MBTI (Myers–Briggs Type Indicator) for some half-day-wasting HR exercise at work, people will talk about which Marvel Champions hero represents them as a person. Maybe, but probably not.

You can look below for your Magic: The Gathering archetype (the famous Johnny/Jenny, Timmy/Tammy, Spike categorization), Myers-Briggs type, Enneagram number, or Hogwarts House. I should point out that I know next to nothing about astrological signs so I avoided including those here. If somebody else would like to take that on, I’d be interested to see how it comes out. And nobody cares about Ilvermorny.

Alternatively you could skip right to the hero write-ups and conclude for yourself which is the best fit for you. Also, these classifications are completely scientific so if you disagree with how the heroes are arranged into the various categories, then you must be mistaken but feel free to let me know what you think.

Finally, I am experimenting a lot in this article with page-jumps in WordPress but it seems that the preview function will not let me accurately test these links. If they work, huzzah, but if not, you will be best served reading through the hero sections at the end of the article.

MTG Psychographic Profile

These are archetypes defined by Mark Rosewater of Magic: The Gathering based around what different players want to get out of playing the game. The link in the section heading will take you to a follow-up of the original article. Players referred to as “Timmy” or “Tammy” are in it for the love of playing the game, whether that be just the socialization aspect or the thrill of playing exciting, thematic cards. The “Johnny” or “Jenny” players are in it for the wombo-combos or to make underrated cards work in unexpected ways. The “Spike” players want to win and to be the very best (like no one ever was).

Timmy/Tammy – She-Hulk, Spider-Man, Captain America, Thor
Johnny/Jenny – Ms. Marvel, Black Panther
Spike – Captain Marvel, Iron Man

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a well-known method for organizing personality types that gets used a decent amount in the corporate world.  There are four variables with two possibilities each.  Introverted (I) or Extroverted (E), Sensing (S) or iNtuitive (N), Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), and Judging (J) or Perceiving (P).  Click on your type to be taken straight to your corresponding hero.

The Enneagram is a system of nine archetypal personalities that can be further broken down and changed based on other psychological factors. Wings, levels, integration, disintegration, etc are much too complicated to get into here so I will just refer you to the link in the section heading. Clicking on an archetype will take you directly to the corresponding hero.

1 – The Perfectionist
2 – The Adviser
3 – The Achiever
4 – The Individualist
5 – The Thinker
6 – The Guardian
7 – The Optimist
8 – The Challenger
9 – The Mediator

Hogwarts Houses

I feel like I don’t even need to write any explanation for this section, such is the extent to which the idea of being sorted into these particular groups has become ingrained in pop culture. If you’re reading this and somehow don’t know or have a thought as to which house you would be in, you can always create an account on Pottermore and be officially sorted (Hufflepuff, here). The link in the section heading is not Pottermore but just a description of the houses on Wikipedia.

Gryffindor – Captain America, Captain Marvel, Thor
Ravenclaw – Iron Man, Spider-Man
Hufflepuff – She Hulk, Ms. Marvel
Slytherin – Black Panther
